Sunny. Happy. A kitchen set up to start the day with a song of praise in one’s heart. An attitude of graditude. An attitude to taste and savor. Make and create. Serve and nourish. Cherish and be. Dwell in peace. That kitchen on the sunny-side up. Living things—Plants, floral arrangements, natural beauty displayed throughout a space brings such joy and life to a space. In our kitchen, the floral arrangements and plant starts sprinkled throughout brought lighthearted bubbleyness in the air. Beneficial in so many ways. Finding all the spots for life to burst forth is an added charm to delight anyone’s soul. I highly recommend it. An inspiring kitchen will only inspire good food—furthering the life givers game. For me, it calls me to care for my health even more and make it a priority to make healthy, beautiful, nutritious food for my family. When I found the portrait of the praying man called Grace, I was immediately taken back to my childhood dining room. My parents had this hanging for years. It was nostalgic. I spent many hours as a kid staring at it, memorizing it to my heart. There was something about it that drew me in, even as a kid. There was safety there. Something offered that was secure and trustworthy. It was now coming home with me as my very own. What I didn’t know is that some time after that score, there was also a woman version of Grace. When my trained eyes found her, I was one happy picker. I find the pair admirable—I like to pretend they’re Tom and I praying grace in our home and setting the foundation of prayer for our family. Wisdom at its best. Inspiring to the soul that’s for certain. Placing meaningful things in your home will make it all the more cozy. So maybe ducks aren’t your thing? For us, it’s special. Find your special, find what piques your interest. Find what brings out your fun personality and incorporate that into your space. It will go miles for you in the long run to make your home feel extra special. For more on the stories behind creating this space, check it out the blog. We had a silver vent fan that hinted on the silver from the SMEG appliances. We chose brass cover plates with white outlets, along with the brass handles on all the cabinets, we chose a brass faucet and we were slowly working to bring in more copper as well, which would mesh with some of the details on our Café refrigerator and stove, and it worked. We had plans to add a copper rail for hanging additional kitchen items and to collect more copper pots on our pickin’ trips. We utilized decor that showcased these mix finishes as well, to create an eclectic-collected look. For more details and the stories behind creating this space, check it out on the blog. A remarkable piece we inherited when purchasing the home, we truly have no words for its beauty. We were more than happy to become its new owners. We were told by the previous owners they added extra supports to the floor below due to it weighing around 900 pounds. This was a true piece of art we were proud to own and allow the piece to shine like the star it was in this beautiful kitchen. Not gonna lie, it makes us look good. Mainly adding pieces for function but not lacking character. We utilized old crates and antique boxes that we added wheels to for easy use and storage. Useful, functional, beautiful. The antique oval floral artwork was the perfect size for our hood vent. I planned to swap out this piece of art seasonally. We refinished the floors, added simple jute rugs, darling cafe curtains and streamlined as much as we could to make it work efficiently in this smaller kitchen. Somethings that remained were also purposeful and necessary, like our Berkey water filter system. For more details and the stories behind creating this space, check out all the details on the blog. Link in bio or below. #freckledandfree #styling #kitchendesign #countryliving #yellowkitchen With the main function of the room complete, it was time for styling and organizing the kitchen for its upmost use-ability and admiration. Displaying beautifully collected pieces for everyday use. Styling in such a way that was adaptable and easy to mix up or interchange. Creating a space of inspiration for all sorts of food hosting. Using various wicker storage separators, new, vintage, and antique picks with personality sprinkled throughout. Visually alluring, charm-filled cabinets peeked through the glass begging to be utilized in the day’s activities. A true cooks’, designers’ and mamas’ dreams if you ask me. We added additional storage and pantry space wherever possible through customizing various antique pieces. As well as worked to make every function and need visually pleasing—even the recycling bin and trash can. Get all the details and my styling style on the blog. Continuing towards that sunny kitchen dream. We chose a simple quartz for both the countertop and the backsplash. After such a chaotic kitchen of mismatch finishes I wanted something simple and clean, but choose to customize the backsplash with unique cuts. We also upgraded the appliances and made a whole new hood that changed the space entirely with a custom v-groove beadboard incasing. And just like that we had upgrading the countertops, backsplash, appliances and hood. While this sunny-side up kitchen was complete-ish, there were still a few more projects to conquer.
