Flashback to A Poem Written from My High School Days
Written by Bethany Curee, God’s Daughter – Freckled & Free
I am from freckles—
from blue eyes and strong hands.
I am from puddles of mud—
dark, dirty and tasty like filth.
I am from oak trees—
and the clematis;
whose smell still lingers
in my nose.

I am from carrot cake and drawing pads—
from Mike and Kim.
I am from the hand-me-downs—
and the self-conscious world.
From the “Jess, Vanna, Beth, Tiff—
whoever you are!”
I am from around the wall—
six times untouched.
And twenty cartwheels across the yard.

I am from Fayetteville and Goshen—
fresh salads and steaks.
From the womb of my mother—
losing her innocence.
The life my Father gave up to live for God.
On my shelf was my journals—
filled with childish stories;
old memories forgotten.
I am older now—
my childhood now traded,
for the endless journey of growing up.
