THE CUREE SCHOOLHOUSE

Written by Bethany Curee, God’s Daughter – Freckled & Free

Day 1 of our 2019-2020 school year.

We started the day with worship and prayer after conducting our fake “bus” rides on my back to our school room #homeschoollife #homeschoolwin. They handed me my fake glasses they insisted I wear to make the part as Mrs. Curee feel even more true to what they think a public school teacher would wear.

I will tell you my teacher break room was a gorgeous outdoor table built by Rustic Grains in which we enjoyed our delicious lunch while absorbing God’s nature. The upgrade this year to our backyard area made recess feel even more real for the kiddos. My handy (and let me add handsome) hubby built them a swing set this year in addition to the zip line he had put up a few months back. Recess was my glorious moment to re-gather my thoughts and mom brain while enjoying their laughter and joy in the background as they stayed infatuated with the chicken coop we just finished this weekend. I truly feel SO blessed. I am SO grateful. All we have gone through this year I truly SAVOR each moment with my family.

Sometimes the first week or just “those days” in home school can be overwhelming. If you lose your focus. I’m learning to be gentle with my plate and my demands I put on my own self. I am continuously reminding myself it’s all going to be OK. You don’t have to check everything off in a day. You can take your time, enjoy the process and enjoy the learning by all. Gauge everyone’s attitudes, moods and willingness and know when to switch things up, when to give everyone a break and learn to just step away when we need it and most importantly to be OK with it. I know….and I’m telling you (if you’re walking this road too), that some days will be crazy, some days you will have tears, but oh the good that will come from all the time you have sown into your children. The memories that will have been made. It’s a sacrifice…that’s no doubt but I believe it will be absolutely worth all this hard work.

Our prayer this year is for PATIENCE. Patience in all of us. Patience while they wait, patience for each other, patience for the teacher (aka mom) and the biggest patience prayer for teaching is with the two little’s amongst us. That the Lord would help us when interruptions come. Lord may we be able to grab a hold of the patient heart we long for.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”  Ephesians 4:2 “A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.” Proverbs 15:18

Now for our 2019-2020 student line up:

NAKODA TAYLOR

My beautiful Nakoda begins fourth grade this year. She not only is a piece of art herself, she serves excellently and is a top notch student. She does well in ALL but favors writing and art. We hope to master a good attitude and love for math this year. She is smart as can be but like her momma gets bored with the non-creativeness of math.

JUDAH MICHAEL

Meet our BOY…Judah who is starting his first grade year. Judah is a sensitive, caring sweetheart who steals your heart in a moment. He enjoys mostly math and science and getting lost in his imagination. We’re hoping to master reading and writing this year like a ninja.

NAOMI EZRA

Naomi is our wild flower. We’re starting pre-school with this genuine girl. Her personality packs a punch…sweetness with a whole lot of sass. She excels at working hard and she is tough as a cookie. She is the most determined child I’ve ever had. We hope to calm her attitude and sass a bit and train her well in playing well with others. She truly is a darling and a JOY we just need to tame her wild side a tad and oh, work on colors, counting, the alphabet and all those pre-k things.

HARVEST DAWN

Harvest…seriously like a stinking angel feather she is the sweetest dew drop of love. We are all smitten by her. She is precious in all her ways and none of us can get enough of her. She is a tag-a-long pre-schooler this year. We’re hoping to get her officially potty trained and help her say goodbye to her night time passy.

From our house to yours. From our school to yours we pray that everyone’s school year is blessed. Lord help us to be less stressed. Help us to stay calm. To care more about those around us whether we school at home or in public. God I pray we could nurture and train up world changers, daring-confident leaders with real solutions to help this world for the better and lead others to the only hope – Jesus Christ. May love be the sounding ground in all our interactions. May we grow in knowledge…in a safe, healthy environment in Jesus name AMEN.
